Now in it’s tenth year the Music Producers Guild Awards will be held on March 1st 2018. The event will be hosted by BBC 6 Music presenter, Shaun Keaveny.
In recent years producers of big selling music are becoming almost as famous as the artists they work with. People like Mark Ronson, Paul Epworth Calvin Harris and Pharrell are household names. The credit for the fact producers are increasingly in the public spotlight is in no small part due to the work of the Music Producers Guild.
The roll call of previous Music Producers Guild award winners reads like a history lesson, with each name on the list recognised for their contribution not only to the music they have helped shape, but also for the part they have played in increasing the profile of the music producer. Previous award winners include Sir George Martin, Brian Eno, Youth, Tony Visconti, Trevor Horn, Catherine Marks, Dave Stuart and Roni Size.
Who should win the awards?
Well that’s really up to you. As with previous years the winners in each category will be chosen by the public, rather than by a secret committee.
There are thirteen categories and the public is being encouraged to submit suggestions for who should win each award. There is no list of names to choose from; you can submit the name of anyone you think worthy. If you think you should win an award then the Guild recommends you enter yourself. In a recent press release the MPG makes it clear that modesty won’t get you anywhere.
Tony Platt, Managing Director of the MPG awards explained:
“Winning an award shows that you have the respect of your peers because ultimately they are the people who have voted for you,” Tony Platt adds. “But before that can happen, you must submit your own name or the name of someone you think is worthy of consideration in a particular category.”

- The A&R Award
Submissions open on the 16th August 2017 and close on the 30th August. So if you want to get involved then you only have a very short margin of opportunity!
